Stephen Curry: Kobe Bryant's death ‘hurts,' offers support to family

For four days, Stephen Curry limited his public reaction to the death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, to an Instagram post in which displayed several photos while conceding that “our faith is being tested.”

The Warriors superstar offered a few words on Thursday.

“I mean, honestly, this whole situation sucks,” Curry said in a televised courtside interview with Allie LaForce of TNT. “You pray for the family through this whole process that they feel comfort and support the best that they can.

“It hurts, as a father, knowing the hole that he’s not able to fill anymore. And, obviously, for Gigi, too. I know the whole NBA family and the whole world, really, has their back.”

A father of three children, including daughters Riley and Ryan, Curry clearly was touched by the zeal with which Kobe embraced fatherhood. Bryant leaves behind a wife, Vanessa, and three other daughters, Natalia, Bianka and Capri.

The helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Kobe, Gianna and seven others occurred on a flight to Thousand Oaks for a basketball game featuring Gianna’s team, which Kobe coached.

“There’s not a lot that you can say about how much Kobe meant on and off the floor,” Curry said. “Then you see the poignant videos and the way he embraced his kids every chance he could. The way he shared his career and love with every single one of them.”

Though Curry and Bryant were teammates only once – the All-Star Game in 2016, Kobe’s final season – they shared a kinship in the NBA fraternity. In the wake of Kobe’s death, Curry replaced his previous Twitter profile with two different photos featuring he and Bryant.
