Stephen A. makes bold title prediction for Klay, Warriors

Klay Thompson created a ton of headlines when he joined the broadcast during the third quarter of the Warriors' win over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night.

So it was not a surprise to see ESPN's "First Take" show discuss the five-time NBA All-Star and the Warriors on Monday morning.

Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman were given the number "1.5" as the over/under for additional NBA titles for Klay in a Golden State uniform.

Kellerman: "I have enough faith in them to think they're gonna get back and win another championship. But more than that is asking almost for a dynasty again. I don't see that happening."

Smith: "I do. I do. I loved watching Klay give his commentary. He was funny. I have been on the record saying Steph Curry is the greatest shooter in the history of mankind. Klay Thompson is one of the top five shooters in the history of basketball.

"Klay Thompson -- if he never played another game -- is a Hall of Famer. And when I think about the two of these guys together ... [James] Wiseman is a rookie.

"I got news for you -- if Klay Thompson comes back healthy, and Steph Curry is healthy, and Wiseman and Draymond [Green] and them ... I reserve the right to revisit this conversation about whether or not the Warriors are gonna win the chip (championship) next year! I mean immediately! That's how elite of shooters that they are."

With Klay sidelined because of a torn right Achilles tendon, the Warriors almost assuredly will not win the championship this season.

And it would be silly and premature to even try to begin to forecast the 2021-22 campaign.

But it's very safe to assume that the three-time NBA champion agrees with Smith's sentiment.

Hopefully, the Basketball Gods will keep everybody healthy, and the Warriors will get a legitimate opportunity to prove Smith correct.
