Kerr pokes fun at self, confirms Warriors are ‘chasing wins'

Steve Kerr was in a good mood following the Warriors' 121-107 win over the Portland Trail Blazers in their preseason opener Monday night. You could tell by his willingness to poke fun at himself.

Golden State had numerous encouraging signs in the victory, perhaps most obvious of which was the team's improved depth. Offseason additions such as Otto Porter Jr., Andre Iguodala and Nemanja Bjelica prominently factored into the win, and it's already evident that it is going to be much tougher to crack the Warriors' rotation this season than it was last year.

Consequently, neither Jonathan Kuminga nor Moses Moody played at all in the first half. And when Kerr was asked about the Warriors' teenage lottery picks' limited playing time, he brought back a line that ought to sound familiar to Warriors fans. Only this time, it's likely to produce a far more positive reaction.

"Jonathan and Moses are so young," Kerr said. "They've got a bunch of guys ahead of them who have been in this league and know what they're doing, so they've got to earn their time. We'll see how it all plays out, but we're chasing wins this year."

Oh, Steve. Someone's got jokes.

Kerr, of course, was referencing his own comment made last season in which he said the Warriors were not going to "chase wins." It caused quite a stir, and he later clarified what he meant.

It would appear no such explanation will be necessary this time around.
