Kerr defends Draymond doing podcast during playoff run

Steve Kerr is one of the most respected coaches in the league, largely due to his relationships with his players.

Before Golden State's Game 6 matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday at Crypto.com Arena, Kerr was asked about Draymond Green and his podcast, "The Draymond Green Show,' and if he is OK with the extracurricular activity during a time when he needs 100 percent focus from his players.

"It's 2023, so 20 years ago coaches would have been furious," Kerr joked. "Those were the days where if somebody's phone went off, the coach would throw the phone at the wall. I think when Magic [Johnson] coached the Lakers, somebody's beeper went off and he threw the beeper at the wall.

"Those days are long gone, 2023 is a different time. The players are media members themselves in many cases."

Green's podcast, which he records immediately after most playoff games, not only could be a distraction but could also land him in trouble with the NBA or the Warriors if he shares something meant to be kept secret.

The first episode of "The Draymond Green Show" aired on Nov. 15, 2021, and became the butt of the joke from opposing teams' fans throughout the Warriors' 2022 championship run, especially after Green struggled against the Boston Celtics in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

"I trust Draymond implicity, he's a champion, he's a worker, he's one of the great competitors I've ever been around," Kerr added. "If he wants to have a podcast, he can have a podcast."

One reason why Kerr is so beloved by his players is that he embraces their personalities and gives them the freedom to express themselves on and off the court.

For Green, that freedom of expression comes in the form of a fiery, 20-to-30-minute podcast recorded shortly after the final buzzer. Win or lose.
