Kerr uses Wiseman-David Robinson comp in reminder to Dubs fans

James Wiseman during the pre-draft process was compared to NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson by several analysts.

And when Steve Kerr on Wednesday afternoon was asked how Wiseman compares to past athletic Warriors big men, Golden State's coach eventually got around to mentioning Robinson.

"He's the equivalent of a sophomore in college who redshirted his first year, and we're throwing him into an NBA," Kerr said of the No. 2 overall pick in last month's NBA draft. "So where he is now compared to where he's gonna be two years from now ... two different things.

"You're talking about a guy who is seven feet tall, huge wing span, runs the floor, good touch, handles the ball -- the package you don't see very often. But there's zero experience in that package now.

"So our job is to help him gain the experience at a reasonable pace -- not overloading him but giving him the room he needs to learn and to grow.

"I know all of our fans are probably hoping he's gonna be David Robinson when he steps out on the floor. But picture David Robinson as a sophomore at Navy. That's the guy you're comparing him to, not the All-Star with the [San Antonio] Spurs."

So how did "The Admiral" perform during his sophomore year at Navy in 1984-85?

He averaged 23.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 0.8 steals, while shooting 64.4 percent from the field.

Not too shabby.

Wiseman scrimmaged Wednesday at practice and feels very good from a conditioning standpoint, but the 19-year-old will not play in the Warriors' preseason finale against the Kings on Thursday night. He will scrimmage again Thursday and Saturday.

So is he trending towards suiting up for the regular season opener next Tuesday against Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets?

"I don't recognize any trends at this point," Kerr said. "Just taking it day by day."

Is it fair to assume either Kevon Looney or Marquese Chriss will start at center vs. the Nets?

"No, I wouldn't necessarily say that," Kerr answered. "I think it could be any of the three. It just depends on where we are next Tuesday."
