Kerr's funny quip about Warriors after back-to-back road wins

The Warriors -- for the first time in the 2022-23 NBA season -- have won two consecutive games on the road, closing out their latest five-game road trip.

The defending champions currently have the fourth-worst road record this season, winning just nine of their 38 games away from Chase Center thus far. But back-to-back wins against the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks have coach Steve Kerr and the Warriors feeling themselves again

“Oh, we’re hot now. We are hot,” Kerr joked with reporters after Golden State’s 127-125 win over the Mavericks on Wednesday. “We’re road Warriors. We knew we had to win these last two games, that’s how we felt given that everybody is just jocking for position and we’ve got some thought games coming in up. We play the [Philadelphia 76ers] next, Minnesota [Timberwolves] after that.

“So we got really difficult games coming up. Playing against a team that we were basically tied with in the standings tonight. Desperately needed it. I thought they were great, playing without [Tim] Hardaway, without Kyrie [Irving], I thought Dallas was fantastic. They were well prepared and they defended like crazy and gave us a lot of trouble but we pulled it out.”

The Warriors started out the road trip in a similar fashion to how their season has unfolded. Three straight road losses against the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies. They salvaged the trip with the two wins.

Golden State left home in fifth place and returned in sixth, but remains in position to decide its destiny and push to remain a top-six seed in the Western Conference and avoid the play-in tournament.

Three of Golden State’s remaining eight games are on the road against the first-place Denver Nuggets, the third-place Sacramento Kings and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Where the season hasn't been as kind to them, the "road Warriors" hope to build on the momentum during the final stretch of the season.
