Steve Kerr, Michael Jordan recall post-fight details much differently

If you watched ESPN's "The Last Dance" documentary on the Chicago Bulls, you're very familiar with the story of Steve Kerr and Michael Jordan getting into a fight during a 1995 practice.

When MJ told his version, he said Bulls coach Phil Jackson immediately threw him out of practice after he punched Kerr in the face.

"I had a different memory from what Michael described on the show," Kerr, now the Warriors' coach, recently told Chris Long on the "Green Light" podcast. "My memory was that Phil had gone upstairs to his office while we were scrimmaging because he had to take a phone call from the league or something, and that's when we got into it.

"So, Phil came down to see what was going on. And I remember him coming over to me, he goes, 'You're gonna have to clean that up.' And I go, 'My eye or my relationship with Michael?' "

Should we even bother speculating on who has the more accurate recollection? That's probably not a good idea, so we'll just leave that alone.

What matters is that Jordan apologized to Kerr, and the incident brought the two together.

“I would say it definitely helped our relationship, and that probably sounds really weird," Kerr told TNT's Ernie Johnson in April. "I wouldn't recommend that to anybody at home. ... Michael was definitely testing me, and I responded.

"I feel like I kind of passed the test, and he trusted me more afterward."
