Kerr not expecting Dubs to make move before trade deadline

With the Feb. 9 NBA trade deadline fast approaching, will the Warriors make a move?

Don't count on it, Dub Nation.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr joined 95.7 The Game's "Damon & Ratto" show Friday, where he said he doesn't anticipate any movement on Golden State's end.

"Every year is a little different based on the schedule, but given that we are home this week, [general manager] Bob [Myers] and I will definitely sit down, probably early in the week, just to go over whatever's happening out there, is something out there or not," Kerr said. "And he'll fill me in on that, and then I go back and do my job, and he does everything ... I don't really expect anything to happen.

"I don't anticipate anything happening, but you always have to be prepared for it."

The most significant deadline move the Warriors have made in recent years was the 2020 trade for Andrew Wiggins, Kerr noted. Since then, Golden State has experienced relatively quiet trade deadlines.

But, of course, there always are rumors. Kerr said he makes it a point to have conversations with players whose names are brought up in reports or other speculation as the deadline nears.

"I just try to be as transparent as possible with the guys, and then if they have any questions or thoughts, I like to be there to listen to them," Kerr said. "That's part of the job.

"One of the things I try to do every year, even at the beginning of the year, is just remind all of our players the deal in the NBA is you get this amazing job, dream job, and you get paid a lot of money and it's exciting. And then also the flip side that comes with that, all the things that are tough."

The Warriors currently are eighth in the Western Conference with a 26-26 record. They have win-now veterans hungry for back-to-back NBA titles with plenty of young talent as well, and it wouldn't be out of the question for Myers to strike a deal that makes them more competitive.

But Kerr also said during the same interview with 95.7 that he still "100 percent" believes the Warriors have enough talent to defend their crown.

With just a few days until the trade deadline is here, Warriors fans will know soon what kind of roster Golden State will have in its push for the NBA playoffs.
