Kerr explains why Warriors still attractive to free agents

After five consecutive NBA Finals trips from 2015 to 2019, the Warriors finished with the league's worst record last season. So, in order for the Warriors to return to basketball's biggest stage, they'll need to bolster their roster this offseason.

Hey, Steve Kerr, do you still have the sense that stars and/or really good players want to come play in the Bay?

"Oh, I think so," the Warriors coach told The Athletic's Tim Kawakami this week on "The TK Show" podcast. "I think there are a few reasons. At the top of the list is playing with our current players -- with Steph [Curry], Klay [Thompson], Draymond [Green]. They make it the most attractive.

"In the modern NBA, players are the biggest drivers in recruitment. But I think people also recognize that we have a strong organization, we have a beautiful new arena, we have a great place to live, we have organizational stability.

"And we have an owner who is willing to spend whatever it takes to win. There are a lot of really attractive dynamics at play in terms of free agents coming to Golden State."

Assuming president of basketball operations Bob Myers receives the green light, the Warriors should be able to sign a significant contributor in free agency with the $6 million-ish taxpayer mid-level exception. Additionally, don't dismiss the concept of a veteran (or two) turning down a little more money elsewhere to accept a minimum contract with Golden State.

It remains to be seen how much money Warrriors ownership is willing to spend on roster upgrades because of the financial consequences surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, but the expectation is the franchise will do what it can to take advantage of the championship window.

"One thing I've learned with Joe [Lacob], is you never say never," Kerr said. "Joe is so competitive, and constantly is putting his money where his mouth is because he wants to win so badly.

"He knows we're in the midst of a run that can continue, so I don't put anything past Joe."
