Trae puts up stat line not seen since Warriors great Hardaway

Trae Young tallied 25 points and 18 assists in leading the Atlanta Hawks to a crucial win over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 4 of their second-round playoff series on Monday, becoming the first NBA player to record those statistics in a postseason game since a Warriors point guard.

And this time, we're not talking about Steph Curry.

Nope, in this case, it was a Tim Hardaway statistical achievement that was equaled. One of the three players that defined the short-lived but fondly-remembered Run TMC era, Hardaway spent the first six seasons of his career in Golden State and helped put the franchise back on the map.

In 1990-91, his second NBA season, Hardaway helped lead a Warriors team that averaged 116.6 points per game (second-most in the league) and finished 44-38, good enough for a playoff berth. They defeated the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs, setting up an all-California matchup in the second round between Golden State and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers, led by Magic Johnson and James Worthy, won Game 1, but Hardaway and the Warriors stole Game 2 in LA. Prior to Game 3 back in Oakland, the Warriors were introduced by Run DMC, the popular rap trio from whom the Run TMC moniker was derived... and the Warriors didn't win another game.

The Lakers took Games 3 and 4 before the series transitioned back to LA for Game 5. The Warriors would go on to lose 124-119 in overtime and be eliminated, but not due to any lack of effort on Hardaway's part, who recorded 27 points and 20 assists in 51 minutes.

So, while Young followed in Hardaway's footsteps on Monday night, he'll surely be hoping his team doesn't suffer the same fate.
