Warriors villain Danny Green misses chance to be Lakers' hero

Warriors

Warriors fans got a double-whammy of good fortune Friday night.

Not only did the Los Angeles Lakers blow their first chance to win the 2020 NBA title in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, but noted Warriors villain Danny Green missed a potential championship winning 3-pointer in the final seconds.

The Heat held on for a thrilling 111-108 win to force a Game 6 on Sunday night.

While Green, then a member of the Toronto Raptors, had no ill-intent during last year's NBA Finals, he was the player that fouled Klay Thompson on a dunk attempt in Game 6. The Warriors star tore his left ACL on the play and wound up missing the entire 2019-20 NBA season as a result.

As you can imagine, NBA Twitter and a few Warriors fans didn't let Green's missed 3-pointer go unnoticed.

While Warriors fans won't forgive Green for injuring Klay last year, Golden State's players knew the then-Raptors guard didn't make a dirty play on Thompson. Green revealed that several Warriors players spoke to him shortly after the foul occurred.

"They were like, 'We know you're not dirty.' " Green told reporters after the Raptors won the NBA Finals over the Warriors last year. "Draymond [Green], Iggy [Andre Iguodala] they were like, 'Yeah, you went up for the ball. He just came down funny. It's not your fault. Don't even worry about it.'

"And I wanted to check on him at the foul line. He's like, 'I know you didn't do it purposely.' "

Green had a chance to win a second straight NBA championship Friday and he came up short. There certainly aren't any Warriors fans who feel bad for him.
