Two positives, two negatives from Klay Thompson's record night in Warriors win

In completing a sweep of a three-game road trip on Monday, the Warriors didn’t do much wrong in their 149-124 thrashing of the Bulls.

But, of course, they didn’t do everything well.

Here are two positives and two negatives taken in the wake of a decisive victory over a depleted opponent in Chicago:

POSITIVES

The return of Klay Thompson

The Warriors have been waiting for this night. They weren’t getting impatient because Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were smoking opponents and, also, because they knew, eventually, Thompson would pitch in.

He did in this game. Thompson drilled his first four shots, scored 22 points in the first quarter -- more than in any previous game this season -- and stayed sharp, totaling 52 points, the second-highest scoring total of his seven-year career.

"He was due for a game like this," Bulls guard Zach LaVine told reporters at United Center. "He saw one go in, and his eyes got as big as the basketball. It's tough after that, because they're looking for him. He's running off of screens, and you can't touch him anyway."

Thompson entered the game shooting 14 percent beyond the arc this season. He was 14-of-24 (58.3 percent), the 14 triples supplanting Curry as the record-holder for most 3-pointers in a game. Thompson was 18-of-29 overall.

Thompson is too prolific a scorer to be offensively irrelevant for long. He’s back.

Kerr’s dream comes true

Coach Steve Kerr has several pet peeves, none more irritating than careless turnovers. The Warriors through six games averaged 17 giveaways per. They reduced it to 12 on Sunday at Brooklyn, and got even better on Monday.

Try seven. The last time the Warriors committed so few turnovers was last March 23 against the Hawks at Oracle Arena.

The 34/7 assists-to-turnovers total (a 4.9-1 ratio) in this game is not sustainable. The desired goal is 3-1, which is outstanding, and why 2.5-1 is acceptable.

The most notable individual was Draymond Green, who chalked up 11 assists without a single turnover. This was one game after Green totaled 13 assists, with one turnover. Green started the season averaging 4.2 turnovers per game, including three games with at least five.

NEGATIVES

The rookie has plenty of work to do

Though Kerr continues to tout the practice development of rookie guard Jacob Evans III, that progress has yet to translate in game action.

The team’s first-round draft pick received his most extended playing time, 16 minutes, and did not distinguish himself: 0 points (0-of-4 shooting), two assists, one rebound, one turnover. Evans was minus-16 for his efforts.

After not playing at all in the first three games, Evans has played 36 minutes in the last five, scoring 4 points. It’s still an extremely small sample size, but he’s not making a case for more playing time.

Iguodala coping with aches and pains

Andre Igoudala has missed only one game so far, but he’s continuing to deal with soreness in his left calf.

After playing 70 minutes in the previous three games, Iguodala played only seven against the Bulls. He was effective in that limited time, with four assists and one rebound (he didn’t take a shot), but left the game with 6:51 left in the second quarter and did not return.

Iguodala retired to the bench, where trainers wrapped an ice pack around his left calf. It’s not yet November, but the maintenance program is well under way.
