The Warriors are on a quest to get back to championship contention next season, and there is abundant speculation that they might try to make a big splash.
On the latest episode of the Dubs Talk podcast, executive vice president of basketball operations Kirk Lacob joined to discuss the pre-draft process and how the Warriors are looking to improve their roster.
Rumors are flying around that the Dubs are on the hunt for stars to add to their team, and reports keep surfacing that the front office is inquiring around the league whenever speculation arises that a star could become attainable.
So is it true that Bob Myers, Lacob and Co. are reaching out to these teams?
"Absolutely. No question. Why wouldn't we? Otherwise, we wouldn't be doing our job," Lacob bluntly said.
There have been countless rumors this offseason about the Warriors pursuing or inquiring about stars such as Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, Ben Simmons, Pascal Siakam and many more. It would make sense that no matter the situation, the Warriors would internally discuss all scenarios, and also reach out to the other teams to understand their mindset and what they are looking for.
In doing so, Lacob and the front office can not only see if they are a potential matching partner, but also can gauge and understand the market and see the demands teams are making.
Yet, that does not mean the level in which the Warriors have discussed certain players is always accurate.
"Those reports are not always true though. Look at the wording of the reports. Sometimes it is 'expect the Warriors to call' or 'I think the Warriors will call' and then it becomes 'the Warriors called.' But yes, the reality is we almost always [call]. We call about things the general public does not know about, like rumors we are hearing, and sometimes it is true and sometimes it is not."
While reports of the Warriors' activity in the trade market might sizzle the hot stove, the truth of the matter is, this type of inquiry is simply status quo.
"We always do our due diligence. You have to. What else are you doing? What's your job? It's our job to try," Lacob said with a grin.
