Warriors acquire Oubre from Thunder for two 2021 draft picks

The Warriors officially have acquired Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team announced on Sunday. Golden State sent a 2021 conditional first-round draft pick and a 2021 second-round draft pick in return.

Oubre, who turns 25 years old in December, averaged a career-high 18.7 points per game for the Phoenix Suns last season. He also shot a career-best 35.2 percent from 3-point range. Oubre, who plays shooting guard and small forward, has increased his scoring every season of his five-year career and continues to grow as a shooter.

The left-hander helps fill the void left by Klay Thompson missing his second straight season after tearing his ACL on Wednesday. Oubre is seen as a young two-way player who should bring versatility to the Warriors at 6-foot-7.

Oubre said he's ready to "rock" with the Warriors on Instagram after the news became official on Sunday.

The first-round pick that the Warriors sent the Thunder is heavily protected. If the Warriors get pick No. 1 through 20 in the 2021 NBA Draft, they will hold on to the pick. If the Warriors finished with pick No. 21 through No. 30, Oklahoma City will get the pick. In the scenario the Warriors keep their pick, they would sent the Thunder two future second-round picks.

Golden State also reportedly has agreed to contracts with guard Brad Wanamaker and wing Kent Bazemore to help fill the Thompson-sized hole on its roster. Wanamaker should play a valuable role as Steph Curry's backup point guard while Bazemore can play both shooting guard and small forward and should help as a two-way player. Bringing in Bazemore is a reunion that benefits both player and team

The Warriors also applied for the $9.3 million Disabled Player Exception in the wake of Thompson's torn Achilles, NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole confirmed on Saturday.

There still are ways for the Warriors to improve after Thompson's devastating injury. The start to remaining contenders, however, is Oubre continuing to turn into a star for his new team.
