Bay Area vs. Boston: Warriors get Celtics in NBA Finals

Share

The Warriors had to wait a few extra days, but they now know the Boston Celtics will be coming to Chase Center for Game 1 of the 2022 NBA Finals on Thursday night.

The Finals matchup was set Sunday night when the Celtics beat the Miami Heat in a heart-stopping Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals at FTX Arena.

The Warriors (53-29) hold home-court advantage in the series because they finished with a better regular-season record than the Celtics (51-31).

The Warriors and Celtics split their two regular-season meetings, with each team winning on the other's home court.

On Dec. 17, the Warriors went into TD Garden and beat the Celtics 111-107. But that was before Boston turned their season around when the calendar flipped from 2021 to 2022.

On March 16, the Celtics got payback with a 110-88 win over the Warriors at Chase Center. In that game, Steph Curry sustained a sprained left foot when Marcus Smart rolled up on the leg of the Warriors' star.

At the time of the play, Warriors coach Steve Kerr was furious at Smart, yelling at him during the game and later calling his actions "dangerous."

Drama aside, the Finals presents a matchup of superstar duos in Curry and Klay Thompson against Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The Splash Brothers will try to prevent "The Jays" from ascending to the top of the NBA mountaintop.

The Warriors are looking to capture their fourth NBA title in eight seasons, while the Celtics are trying to win their first championship since the 2007-08 season.
