Warriors inform PA announcer they are going in a new direction

If you attend a Warriors game at Oracle Arena next season, you will hear a new PA announcer.

Golden State informed Matthew Hurwitz that he will not return next year, Hurwitz told Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle.

"It was amicable," Hurwitz said during a phone conversation with The Chronicle. "There were no hard feelings. Obviously, it was a bit of a surprise and disappointing news to hear, but I totally understand that these things happen with sports and with roles like myself.

"I’m obviously grateful for the experience that I had with them."

Hurwitz assumed the full-time role in December 2000, and just completed his 17th full season.

"Matt did an outstanding job during his long tenure as our PA announcer, and we thank him for his dedication and hard work for close to two decades," Raymond Ridder -- the Warriors’ VP of Communications told The Chronicle in a statement. "He was a total pro regardless of the team’s performance on the court, both good and otherwise, and was a friendly fixture at numerous community events where he represented the Warriors.

"We’ve simply elected to go in a new direction and hit the re-set button with some of our in-game programming. We’ll begin the process of finding a new PA announcer immediately."
