Wiseman on schedule, will be ready for Warriors training camp

If you like reading good news on Monday morning, you came to the right place.

When the Warriors open training camp in late September, James Wiseman will be ready to rock and roll.

"He’s right on schedule for everything and, as of now, medical team tells me he will be ready for camp," Steve Kerr told The Athletic's Anthony Slater during a conversation last week.

This is important because when Wiseman underwent surgery April 15 to repair a meniscal tear in his right knee, Golden State announced the 7-footer is "expected to return for the 2021-22 campaign," and that "an update on his progress will be provided in September."

Subsequent comments from various members of the franchise were that the team hopes Wiseman will be ready for camp. Fast forward to today and it sure sounds like the No. 2 overall pick from the 2020 draft will be on the court from Day 1.

But keep in mind Kerr did say "as of now," because things can change if there is a setback of any kind.

As for the even bigger picture, the Warriors' head coach remains very optimistic about Wiseman's potential.

"I'm just so inspired by what [Deandre] Ayton has been able to do [in the playoffs]," Kerr said last week. "And I think there's no reason why James can't follow that same path.

"I know everybody is impatient [and] wants him to be great now. It just doesn't work that way. But if we continue to develop him and we're having a great season -- that's the whole plan, that's the whole idea.

"Over the long haul, we're gonna develop James and we feel like he's gonna be our starting center at some point for a long, long time."
