Warriors pick Jessup earns honor for solid Australia season

Justinian Jessup earned a nice distinction this week.

The 23-year-old is one of three finalists for Rookie of the Year in Australia's National Basketball League.

The Warriors selected Jessup in the second round (No. 51 overall) of the 2020 NBA Draft out of Boise State.

The 6-foot-7 lefty got off to a terrific start this season for the Illawarra Hawks, shooting 43.4 percent (53-for-172) from beyond the arc over his first 22 games.

He did cool off, however, as he made just 18 percent (13-for-72) of his 3-point attempts over his last 13 games.

Jessup is averaging 13.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game so far.

The plan is for Jessup to suit up for the Warriors in August at Summer League in Las Vegas. How he performs there will dictate the plan for next season.

"Right now, his best skill is shooting," Golden State president of basketball operations Bob Myers a couple weeks ago. "And he's pretty big. To shoot at that size as well as he does -- he's a knock-down shooter.

"But until we see him do it at the game speed of the NBA ... then we can make that call."
