Warriors to keep ‘Golden State' name after move to San Francisco

The Warriors have gone through name changes in the past. They were first the Philadelphia Warriors from 1956-1962. Once the team move out West, the franchise became the San Francisco Warriors from 1962-1971 before their current name of the Golden State Warriors starting in 1971.

So, what happens when the team moves from Oakland to San Francisco in 2019-20 with the opening of the Chase Center? For the time being and the future, it looks like there won't be any more name changes.

"Let's make it official," Warriors President and COO Rick Welts said Wednesday on the Murph & Mac Show. The Warriors will not be called the San Francisco Warriors, instead choosing to keep their "Golden State" moniker.

It's official, three name changes are enough. The Bay is still golden and now you can keep your money instead of unloading your wallet for a new jersey.
