Warriors make dubious franchise history in 19-point Game 6 loss

The Warriors laid an egg Friday night at Chase Center, failing to close out the Sacramento Kings in a 118-99 Game 6 loss in the first-round NBA playoff series.

The official SportsCenter Twitter account added salt to the wound, too, pointing out the historic nature of Golden State’s 19-point loss, which was the largest home defeat with a chance to clinch a playoff series in franchise history.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr knew Game 6 would be challenging to win, as his team would receive the Kings' best punch with their season on the line.

“Close-out games are always incredibly difficult,” Kerr said Wednesday night. “So, we’re not of that [got it made] feeling. We know that we have to go out and get it done. And we do feel like we know what we have to do. It’s no secret: Take care of the ball and rebound.”

The Kings were prepared to leave everything on the court with their backs against the wall. They played desperate, and the Warriors couldn’t match that intensity to close out their Northern California rivals.

After an impressive Game 5 road win in which the Warriors displayed their playoff experience, many believed they would advance to the second round. However, now Steph Curry and Co. now must go on the road again and get a win, or their season will be over.
