Warriors meet with former President Obama ahead of matchup vs. Wizards

The Warriors didn't visit the White House during their trip to the nation's capital. No surprise there.

That didn't stop them from meeting with a President, though.

Prior to Thursday's game against the Wizards, the Warriors met with former President Barack Obama for about an hour. According to the team, no coaches were present, as it was a players-only experience.

The fact that the Warriors skipped out on a White House trip shouldn't shock anyone. Last year, in lieu of visiting the White House as reigning NBA champions, they toured the National Museum of African American History and Culture during their lone trip to Washington D.C.

That, of course, came after President Trump preemptively withdrew the Warriors' invitation -- before they even received one.

Several members of the Warriors, including coach Steve Kerr, have not seen eye to eye with the current administration, to say the least. Kerr -- whose father was the victim of gun violence -- and guard Stephen Curry at times have been outspoken critics of President Trump and some of his administration's more controversial policies.

The Warriors' relationship with Obama, on the other hand, always has been resoundingly positive. He was, of course, the President when Golden State visited the White House after winning the NBA championship in 2015, and he and Curry have played golf together several times.
