Warriors draft pick Jessup focused on improving in two main areas

The Warriors on Wednesday night selected Justinian Jessup with the No. 51 overall pick in the draft.

"I'm super excited. I think it's a great fit," Jessup told ESPN Australia's Olgun Uluc. "They're really well run, had a lot of success; they've had some great players there, so I'm super excited about the pick and the fit overall."

Jessup -- a 6-foot-7 lefty -- averaged 16.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals during his senior year at Boise State, while shooting 39.7 percent from 3-point range on 7.7 attempts.

He made 45.7 percent of his 3-pointers as a sophomore and 41.0 percent as a junior.

The 22-year-old will play this season for the Illawarra Hawks of Australia's National Basketball League (that's the team LaMelo Ball was on last year), with the hope of earning a contract with the Warriors in the near future.

"I want to keep improving my defense, and my overall toughness," he told ESPN Australia. "I want to just be able to take on any challenge head on. I think, defensively, it's going to be a good year, just to work on that.

"Defensively, you can work on that through working on your body - just the athleticism - and then just playing against other good players; like, this whole summer, I was playing against NBA guys, and I think that really helped me.

"Hopefully it's something the Warriors will be encouraged by when they watch the games this year, and something I know I'm gonna need to continue to improve at to have a chance to play in the NBA."
