Warriors recall Poole, Mannion from G League bubble

Jordan Poole and Nico Mannion likely will not be playing for Santa Cruz again this season, as the Warriors recalled both guards Monday.

Golden State plays at the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, before the NBA All-Star break arrives.

I suppose it's possible that Poole and Mannion head back to the bubble if Santa Cruz has a playoff game next Monday, but that seems unlikely.

Perhaps we will get some definitive answers Tuesday when Steve Kerr speaks to the media.

Poole averaged 22.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.4 turnovers over 11 games in the G League bubble, while shooting 45 percent from the field and 32.5 percent from beyond the arc.

"The talent is there, and he's shown -- whether it's the scoring or the play-making -- those are hard-to-find skills and skills that we liked when we drafted him," Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers told Santa Cruz Warriors play-by-play man Kevin Danna last week.

Mannion across nine games averaged 19.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 3.3 turnovers. He shot 40.5 percent overall and 36 percent from deep.

The soon-to-be 20-year-old scored a season-high 27 points in Santa Cruz's win over the Austin Spurs on Sunday.

"Nico has been great, and I think what you've seen from him is the same thing we've seen -- the competitiveness, the desire, the winning plays," Myers said last week. "[He's] also learning from some of the miscues and taking care of the ball and things like that.

"But he's also got a bright future, great talent, better athlete than people think."

The Santa Cruz Warriors have won eight straight games, and will be back in action Tuesday morning against the Erie Bayhawks.

Coverage starts at 8:00 PT on NBC Sports Bay Area.
