Steph, Wiggins out vs. Spurs as Warriors rest veteran players

Share

The Warriors will be playing without plenty of veterans on the second night of back-to-back Tuesday in San Antonio, including All-Star starters Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins.

Curry and Wiggins join Klay Thompson (right Achilles injury management), Otto Porter Jr. (left foot injury management), Andre Iguodala (left hip) and Nemanja Bjelica (back), along with the rehabbing Draymond Green and James Wiseman, on the sidelines against the Spurs.

While it's evident Curry and Wiggins are getting "rest" days, they are listed on the injury report with left toe soreness and left knee soreness, respectively.

Curry exploded for 40 points in Monday's 122-108 win over the Houston Rockets, emphatically busting out of his January slump with a 21-point fourth quarter. The Warriors star has played in 47 of Golden State's 51 games this year, so it makes sense to get him some strategic rest in a back-to-back set.

The Warriors have won six straight games and are comfortably in the No. 2 seed in the West with a 38-13 record. With so many veteran players on the bench, coach Steve Kerr likely will turn to Jordan Poole and rookies Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody to pick up the slack.

After Tuesday's game, the Warriors head home to face the Kings on Thursday from Chase Center. It appears likely that Curry, Wiggins, Thompson and others will suit up for that one.
