Warriors take Vanderbilt center Damian Jones at No. 30

OAKLAND -– With starting center Andrew Bogut aging and backup Festus Ezeli becoming a restricted free agent, the Warriors went big Thursday night in the NBA Draft.

With the 30th overall selection at the end of the first round, they chose 7-foot Vanderbilt center Damian Jones.

Jones, who turns 21 on June 30, spent three seasons with the Commodores. The engineering science major decided to make himself eligible for the NBA draft after his junior season.

Jones, a native of Baton Rouge, La., is a two-time All-SEC pick, voted by coaches within the conference. He averaged 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds as a junior, while also blocking 54 shots.

Jones’ career-high in scoring is 27 points, posted against Florida on 12-of-13 shooting. His career-high in rebounds is 16, against Georgia.
