Warriors Under Review: Steph Curry stays hot in rout over Hornets

Share

OAKLAND - Two nights after the Warriors suffered a bitter, referee-influenced road loss to the Timberwolves, Golden State left no doubt Sunday evening in a 137-90 rout of the Charlotte Hornets.

The win clinched their fifth-straight Pacific Divison title and gave them a one-game lead of over the Denver Nuggets, who lost to the Washington Wizards on Sunday night.

Here are the positives and negatives of the blowout.

Positive

Quinn got Cookin'

After toiling the bench for much of the season, Cook turned in his best performance of the season, scoring 13 of his 21 points in the first half, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.

For much of the season, Cook has tried to capture the magic of last year, when, as a two-way player, he averaged 13 points and 3.4 assists, on 48 percent from the field and 44.8 percent from 3-point range. After struggling from the 3-point line much of the year, Cook has made 20 of his last 40 treys, including 10 of his last 12.

If Cook can continue this hot streak, the Warriors depth could be a whole lot better heading into the postseason.

Positive

Splash Bros and Co. deliver from deep

The Warriors shot a franchise-best 63.6 percent from 3-point range Sunday evening.

Klay Thompson scored 24 points on 9-of-16 from the field, including six 3-pointers. Fellow Splash Brother Steph Curry, two nights after hitting 11 treys in Minnesota, poured in 25 points, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Even Draymond Green, who struggled with his shot earlier this season, hit two 3-pointers Sunday night and is shooting 45 percent from beyond the arc over his last nine games.

Positive

Easy Money Efficiency

Kevin Durant finished with a game-high nine assists, but more impressive was his efficiency from the field, as he scored 11 points on 5-of-5 from the field, making his only 3-pointer of the game.

Over his last four games, Durant is shooting 65 percent from the field and has more assists (32) than field goals (30)

Negative

Nipsey Hussle's tragic passing

Prior to the game, the Warriors, like the rest of the NBA, were rocked by the news of Hussle's murder in Los Angeles.

Players were somber in talking about his influence in the locker room and there was no clearer indication of Golden State's love for the fallen rapper than in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game when DJ D Sharp, Oracle Arena's in-house DJ, played Hussle's single, Last Time That I Checc'd, prompting  Green, Durant and Shaun Livingston to dance in Hussle's honor.

Hip hop lost a star Sunday night, and for the Warriors, the loss hit home.
