What Poole learned from Klay in Warriors minicamp bubble

Jordan Poole had a much bigger role during his first season with the Warriors than expected, as long-term injuries to both Steph Curry and Klay Thompson opened up a lot of playing time at the team's two guard spots.

Although Poole didn't get the chance to play alongside them much in his rookie season for Golden State, Warriors assistant general manager Kirk Lacob explained that Poole has been trying to learn from the Splash Brothers, and wants to emulate his All-Star teammates.

"He’s actually been studying film of Steph and Klay not because he wants to be Steph or Klay but because he sees some things that they do, and he wants to try to mimic the things that he can," Lacob told Patrick Murray of Forbes.

"Jordan's competitive. I know he wanted to compete shooting drills with those guys. He wants to think that he can be on par with them. You know, frankly, if you can even be on the court at the same time as Steph and Klay you can shoot the ball pretty damn well. So it's gonna be big for him being around those guys more and more as we go forward."

Poole's confidence never seemed to be in question during his first season in the NBA, as the Michigan product wouldn't shy away from taking the big shot or handling a difficult assignment on defense.

He has nowhere near the shooting prowess of Thompson and Curry at this stage in his career, as Poole shot only 27.9 percent from deep, and finished 2019-20 with just a 40.6 percent effective field goal percentage.

Getting to soak up knowledge and experience from players of the caliber of Thompson and Curry only will further his development, and we'll see how Poole translates that offseason work whenever the 2020-21 season tips off.
