Where Steph Curry's epic second half stands in Warriors, NBA history

Steph Curry was the first to admit he didn't have a great start Friday night.

"I was pretty terrible," Curry told reporters in Houston after the Warriors' 118-113 win over the Rockets in Game 6 (h/t Bleacher Report). "I just didn't make a shot, fouling. I think the only thing I did well was not turn the ball over for the 12 minutes I was out there on the floor. So I find a positive in everything."

Curry had zero points after two quarters, but he followed up his first-half whimper with a second-half bang at Toyota Center. The two-time league MVP torched the Rockets -- and ruined some gamblers' nights -- with 33 points, sending Houston packing in the NBA playoff second-round series.

“That was the best 18 minutes of my career,” Curry told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

The Warriors star actually played 22 minutes in the second half, but those minutes arguably were some of the best in NBA history.

Curry's 33 second-half points tied for the second most in NBA playoff history. Steve Nash set the record with 35 points in 2005, and Curry joined Anthony Davis, James Harden, Dirk Nowitzki and Russell Westbrook in second place.

As far as Warriors history goes, Curry stands alone. No player other than him has scored at least 30 points in a half. In fact, Curry broke Kevin Durant's record just six days after Durant set it. Durant scored 29 points in the second half of a Game 3 loss to the Rockets on May 4.

Curry surpassed Durant's record as the pending free agent recovers from a strained right calf suffered in Game 5. Durant is expected to return at some point during next week's Western Conference finals, so there's a chance Curry's record might not stand for long, either.
