Why 2015 Memphis meal with Steph is so special to Draymond

The Warriors' run to the 2015 NBA title was fueled by some BBQ and adult beverages in Memphis, Tenn., among other things.

As has been well-documented, with the Warriors trailing two-games-to-one to the Grizzlies in the second round of the Western Conference, Steph Curry and Draymond Green ventured from the team hotel to a restaurant in Memphis to talk things out.

The meal did the trick, as the Warriors won the next three games against the Grizzlies, beat the Houston Rockets in five games in the Western Conference Finals and then took down LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games to win the franchise's first NBA title in 40 years.

On the latest installment of NBC Sports Bay Area's Decade in the Bay series, Green reflected on that meal with Curry in 2015 and what made it so important.

"My favorite moment with Steph, and I've said it publicly before, is 2015 where we kind of made our way," Green told Kelenna Azubuike. "It's like, 'Oh man, these guys might be real contenders.' We went up against the Memphis Grizzlies, a team that's been in the playoffs over and over and over again. They had been together, a lot of experience and we go down two to one at Memphis, and it just felt like we had the world collapsing on us. Steph was struggling, I was struggling and we were in Memphis. I called him, I was like, 'Yo, let's go to Blues City Cafe.'

"He met me downstairs in 10 minutes, and we walked to Blues City Cafe and had an incredible meal. But even more importantly, we probably sat there until like 1 or 2 in the morning just shooting the s--t, having a good time, talking, discussing the things for a hot second that we knew we could change. What capped it off and what makes that moment so special to me is I feel that was a very important moment in winning that first championship. We can always look back on that moment and point there and be like, 'Damn, it was all going wrong and we figured it out.' "

Green and Curry helped build the Warriors into a dynasty, with the team winning an NBA record 73 games the following season. Golden State appeared in the next four NBA Finals and won two of those four series.

If not for a little Memphis BBQ, the Warriors might have been knocked out by the veteran Grizzlies and a dynasty might not have been born.
