Vaughn Dalzell breaks down how to bet on the Howard Bison taking on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Howard at Rutgers (-13.5): O/U 143.0
Rutgers cashed out Georgetown Team Total Under 62.5 and I say we run it back as they are home hosting Howard.
The Scarlet Knights held three of its four opponents to 60 or fewer points with Princeton being the lone Over with 68 points. Rutgers’ defense ranks 352nd in average possession length (19.3) and ranks top 25 in adjusted defensive efficiency.
Howard scored 85 or more points in three straight games, then came back down to earth against Boston University at home.
The Bisons scored 64 points on 13-of-32 from two (40.6%) and 6-of-22 from three (27.3%). At half, Howard trailed 24-23 on 19.2% from the field and 16.6% from deep.
Now, Howard goes on the road to Rutgers, who could keep them around, if not Under those totals. The Knights are holding its opponents to 29% from three (97th) and 24.7% in three home games (67th).
The Bison also have one player at 6-foot-7 in the starting lineup and two players at 6-foot-7 or taller in the rotation. Howard is the 337th in average height, so Rutgers should dominate the paint and win the rebounding battle.
Howard’s Team Total is set at 64.5 and -120 odds to the Under, which I think is the best bet here. I would go down to 62.5
Pick: Howard Team Total Under 64.5 (1u)
