Rutgers (-17.5) at Temple: O/U 44.0

Last season, Rutgers was laying -14.5 at home versus Temple and throttled them 61-14. This season, they raised the line by three points, but they may not be enough on the road in Philly.

Temple lost 30-0 at Duke in the season-opener and beat FCS Lafayette 30-14 at home last Saturday. The Owls offense is horrid.

Versus Duke, Temple posted 83 passing yards from D’Wan Mathis and 16 yards from the leading rusher. The Owls had 179 total yards and surrendered 500 against Duke.

Rutgers comes in here 2-0 ATS and on the ML after upsetting Boston College on the road 22-21 and smacking FCS Wagner 66-7 at home.

The Scarlett Knights are 5-2 ATS as a favorite under Greg Schiano (71.4%) and covered five of the past six, per NBC’s Edge Finder. He is 3-0 ATS as a double-digit favorite but they all came at home. This will be the first road test as a double-digit favorite in his tenure, but luckily, it comes at Temple.

Temple’s Stan Drayton should be a fine coach long-term with all of his mentors, but this is too early in the turnaround process to be backing Temple.

Rutgers amassed 212 rushing yards versus Boston College and 5.0 yards per carry and if Duke could record 172 rushing yards on 4.9 yards per carry, I like the Knights offense to be able to score enough to cover the -17.5.

I don’t expect Temple to score more than two touchdowns if Phil Jurkovec and Boston College struggled at home versus a road Rutgers team.

Rutgers has a home game versus Iowa next week, so a look ahead spot is possible. With that being said, I like Rutgers in the 1H a little more than the full-game, because they will want to get out to a good start and finish Temple early.

I played Rutgers 1H -9.5 at -110 odds for 1.5 units and lean the full-game of -17.5 after last year’s blowout.

I would play the 1H to -12.5 for 1 unit. I think Rutgers scores at least three touchdowns in the first 30 minutes.

Pick: Rutgers 1H -9.5 (1.5u)
