The PGA Tour remains in international waters this week, traveling from Bermuda to Mexico for the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.

The tournament might as well be called the Hovland Invitational, as Viktor Hovland has reigned supreme along the Riviera Maya coastline each of the last two years. The Norwegian won this event in 2020 by a shot, then became the tournament’s first two-time champ when he successfully defended last year in a four-shot romp.

It’s no surprise, then, to see Hovland’s name among the pre-tournament favorites this week at El Camaleon GC, but he’s not topping the board. That spot belongs to Scottie Scheffler, who is making his first start since being displaced by Rory McIlroy atop the world rankings. Scheffler has finished T-18 and fourth in his two prior trips to Mayakoba, and he’s listed just ahead of Hovland who hopes to become the first player to win the same PGA Tour event three years in a row since Steve Stricker at the John Deere Classic from 2009-11.

Other notables in the field this week include Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau and Billy Horschel as several big names begin to wind down their playing schedule for the calendar year. Also teeing it up is Seamus Power, fresh off his one-shot victory over Thomas Detry in Bermuda.

Here’s a look at the pre-tournament odds for one of two Tour events played annually in Mexico:
