The most exciting week in golf is finally upon us. It’s here and it almost feels unreal. It feels good to say it. It’s Masters week! 91 of the world’s best golfers will tee off from Augusta Country Club in hopes to win the illustrious “green jacket.” An interesting nugget: the last first-time participant who went on to win the Masters came in 1979 when Fuzzy Zoeller defeated Ed Sneed and Tom Watson in a playoff. Augusta is a tricky course with hidden intricacies and subtle nuances that often give first-timers trouble. For my first bet of the week, I am backing a course horse. You can find these odds on PointsBet Sportsbook.

Jon Rahm to finish top-10 +115

There’s no denying that the 2021-2022 season hasn’t gotten off to the start that Rahm had hoped. For many on tour, a few top-5 finishes to start the season is an amazing start. For the former World No. 1, being without a win this deep into the season is a disappointment. If you remove the lofty expectations, Rahm is off to a fine start. Especially for the bet that I am backing this week. Jon Rahm to finish top-10 (+115).

The saying, “the cream rises to the top” applies so much in majors. Whether it’s the pressure that the less skilled players face or the extra effort the top players give, there are generally the same names towards the top. At Augusta, a name that has been a constant at the top is Rahm’s. He’s finished top-10 last four years.

Rahm fits the course mold. He’s long off the tee, averaging 314 yards. He’s gaining +1.1 strokes per round off-the-tee over his last 36 rounds, which is the highest among the field. He’s gaining +1.6 strokes ball-striking, good for second among the field.

Rahm has gained a tournament-high +44 strokes at Augusta. He’s a course horse who I am backing to finish top-10. Honestly, at +115, I think his price is an auto bet.
