The PGA Tour is heading across the Pacific this week, and Xander Schauffele is expected to have more success in the Land of the Rising Sun.

One year after Schauffele won the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo, he’s now a betting favorite for the PGA Tour’s Zozo Championship. The tournament is in its fourth year of existence, although the 2020 edition was played in California because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Schauffele has played in each of the three prior iterations, highlighted by a T-10 finish in 2019, and he’s topping the odds board this week at +800 in his first stroke-play start since the Tour Championship. At No. 6 in the world, Schauffele is the highest-ranked player in the 78-man field and one of only two top-10 players teeing it up this week in Japan.

The other, world No. 9 Collin Morikawa, is listed at +1400 alongside the Tour’s most recent winner, Tom Kim. Kim was the beneficiary of a 72nd-hole blunder from Patrick Cantlay, and he took the title Sunday at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas. The win made Kim the first since Tiger Woods to rack up two Tour victories before turning 21, and he became just the third player since 1974 to win on Tour while playing 72 holes without making a single bogey.

In between Schauffele and Morikawa/Kim are Sungjae Im, who finished seventh last week in defense of his Shriners title, and Hideki Matsuyama, who cruised to a five-shot win at the Zozo a year ago.

Here’s a look at some of the notable odds for this week’s no-cut event in Japan, which will tee off Wednesday evening for American audiences:
