Vaughn Dalzell breaks down how to bet the series opener between the Tampa Bay Rays versus the New York Yankees.
Yankees (+155) at Rays (-180): O/U 8.5
An exciting series between the AL East leading Tampa Bay Rays and last-place New York Yankees kicks off today as both teams entering on mini-winning streaks.
New York is coming off a winning series versus Cleveland (2-1), a series they normally win, and not enter a more competitive series as the road team. New York is 6-7 on the road and lost three-straight, plus five of the past seven away from Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees are going for their first three-game winning streak of the season and are coming off a rest day. New York is 0-2 after a rest day this season, losing to the Angels and Orioles.
Tampa Bay went 5-5 against New York at home last season, but is a much different and more dangerous team. The Rays, of course, have the MLB’s best record at 26-6 and 17-2 at home.
Tampa Bay is on a three-game winning streak and took six of the past seven. The Rays have the pitching edge here with Yonny Chirinos (0.64 ERA) starting things off against Jhony Brito (5.56 ERA). New York is 1-3 in Brito’s last four starts and 1-2 on the road overall.
Give me the Rays ML at -180 odds. I risked 1.5 units. I think Tampa wins this series, so I will take the Rays on Friday and Saturday as Gerrit Cole pitches for the Yankees on Sunday.
Pick: Rays ML (Risk 1.5u)
