It was a dreadful start to the 2022 season for the Cincinnati Reds. They split their season opening four game series against the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves. They nosedived after that winning just once in their next twenty games. Think about it. One win in three weeks. Yikes! Somehow, David Bell righted the ship with his club and since May 7th, the Reds have posted a record of 11-8.
San Francisco has been streaky since the jump in 2022. The Giants have enjoyed a couple five-game winning streaks as well as a six-game winning streak. Gabe Kapler’s crew, though, has also suffered through a pair of five-game losing streaks. Currently in third place in the NL West, the Giants have gone 10-7 since May 7th - that same day Cincy started competing in 2022.
Sunday on Peacock, the Cincinnati Reds host the San Francisco Giants.

To help you out, here are some statistics and suggested picks to two questions from this week’s game.
Question #1: How many Home Runs will the San Francisco Giants hit @ Cincinnati on Sunday against the Pirates?
Potential Answers: 0, 1, 2, 3+
The Giants are 7th in the majors and 4th in the National League with 52 Home Runs in their first 43 games. Joc Pederson leads the team with 11 home runs. Four of those have been hit in the team’s last two games (both wins at home against the Mets). Wilmer Flores is one of four Giants with four home runs.
With a dive into recent history, the Giants have hit eight bombs in their last seven games. Again, Pederson has done the majority of the damage in that span. The team has hit 14 round trippers in their last 13 games. On the road, the San Francisco Giants have hit 22 home runs in 19 games.
Cincinnati pitching are a welcome site to opposing hitters. The Reds rank second from the bottom in the majors and are the most generous team in the National League. Cincy hurlers have allowed 59 home runs in 44 games this season led by Hunter Greene’s 15 home runs allowed in nine appearances. Reds’ opponents have hit nine dingers in the last seven games and 12 in their last 15. The Great American Ballpark has been just that to opposing hitters this season led by Dauri Moreta who has yielded five home runs in eight games.
Expect San Francisco to keep their offense rolling Sunday in Cincinnati.
Suggested Answer: The San Francisco Giants will hit two home runs Sunday at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

Question #2: How many Home Runs will the Cincinnati Reds hit Sunday at home against the San Francisco Giants?
Potential Answers: 0, 1, 2, 3+
The Reds’ dismal first month is reflected in their statistics. Overall, Cincinnati has hit 39 bombs in 44 games. That ranks 20th in the majors. At home, they have hit 20 round trippers in 18 games. Joey Votto is partly to blame for the slow start. The first baseman did not send one out of the park until May 22nd. Votto may be heating up as he has added a second home run this week.
Much like Votto, the Reds have fared better at the plate of late. In their last seven games, the Reds have hit eight home runs and 14 in their last 13 games.
San Francisco’s pitching has been generous to opposing hitters but NOT when it comes to home runs. As a team, the Giants have served up a mere 33 dingers in their first 43 games. That ranks second in both the National League and all of Major League Baseball. Not surprisingly, Logan Webb is pretty stingy have yielded two homers in nine appearances this season.
On the road, the Giants have given up a “paltry” 17 home runs in 19 games. That said, reliever Zach Littell (appropriately nicknamed “Lit”) has been the most generous Giants’ hurler on the road in May having given up three home runs.
The bottom line is Cincinnati has it going in the right direction after that brutal start. The offense is clicking. They will not light up San Francisco pitching but they will send one pitch over the fence.
Suggested Answer: The Cincinnati Reds will hit one home run Sunday vs. the San Francisco Giants at the Great American Ballpark.
