UFC Fight Night features a main event bout between Rob Font and Jose Aldo. This event is scheduled for the Apex in Las Vegas. The UFC has a crowd at the top of the Bantamweight division and the winner of this fight should be a win away from a title shot.
The Skillset of Rob Font
Rob Font is a skilled striker fighting out of the gym Boston Cartel. He is a volume puncher who works the head and occasionally targets the body. He does not throw many legs kicks at all. Font can be taken down to the mat and controlled for periods of time but will eventually make his way back up to his feet. Rob Font is best known for his jab. He uses his jab as a range finder early in fights and has no problem letting that jab fly in order to keep distance as the fight moves along. Rob Font has found his stride with four straight wins which include a masterful performance vs Cody Ganbrandt. Font connected on 176 of 365 strikes in a dominant 5 round decision win vs Garbrandt.
The Skillset of Jose Aldo
Jose Aldo is the former UFC Featherweight Champion. He has dropped down to Bantamweight and has two wins and two defeats at his new weight class. He has fought the top of the division with his losses coming to Petr Yan and Marlon Moraes. Jose Aldo is a well-rounded mixed martial artist but he favors the striking battles in his fights. He is extremely quick and attacks the body with his striking. Aldo trains at the Brazilian Gym Nova Uniao. He is entering this fight on a two-fight winning streak and landed 114 strikes in his last fight vs Jose Munhoz.

The Path to Victory
There are two bets to make on this fight. My pick to win is Rob Font.
- Rob Font Double Chance (Font by KO/TKO or on Points)
- Rob Font to win/Over 2.5 rounds
Rob Font has a powerful jab. Font should be able to control the distance and pop that job in Aldo’s face for the entirety of this fight. Distance control is key as a result of Jose Aldo’s effectiveness in attacking the body. Aldo is able to mix in his body shots and get his opponent’s hands to drop. When Aldo’s opponent starts to worry about the body shots, he’s able to capitalize and strike at different levels by going to the head. Neither fighter throws many leg kicks. Font should keep this at his preferred distance and stay away from Aldo’s body attack. Font holds a considerable striking volume advantage at distance also.
Rob Font has been susceptible to takedown attempts but Jose Aldo hasn’t attempted a takedown in his last 12 fights and at 35 years old we don’t expect to see him become a takedown machine and risk tiring himself out. Aldo will be cautious in his approach which leads us to the conclusion this fight goes over the 2.5 round mark.
