The lone game in the NHL on Monday features two of the worst teams in the league.

Below you will find an overlay from tonight’s game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks that is available at PointsBet.

For those unfamiliar with the term “overlay,” it simply refers to odds that are higher than an outcome’s true probability.

For example, if an outcome has a 50% chance of happening, the correlating odds would be +100.

If the odds offered on that specific event are +150, or an implied probability of 40%, then the price would represent an overlay.

PHILADELPHIA FLYERS at CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

There is no need to sugarcoat tonight’s game between the Flyers and Blackhawks: it is a bad game.

I have these teams rated as the fourth and fifth worst teams in the National Hockey League this season, suggesting this matchup will not be one that will be one for the record books.

The Flyers are banged up in a bad way, with as many as ten regulars possibly missing tonight’s contest at United Center in Chicago.

Things are not quite as dire for the Blackhawks, but with one of their best players in Kirby Dach still uncertain for this evening’s affair, scoring for the home team could continue to be difficult.

Chicago has scored just two goals in their last two games combined, continuing a trend that has plagued them all season.

The Blackhawks average 2.59 goals per game, a number that is tied for 28th worst in the NHL.

Philadelphia’s offense has come to life over their last five games (averaging 3.6 goals per game), however they are also a team that has struggled to put pucks in the back of the net this year.

The Flyers have averaged 2.62 goals per game, ranking just ahead of Chicago in this category while still sitting squarely in the bottom third of the league.

Goaltending for each side has been suspect lately, but I am hoping the lack of firepower combined with the end of a couple of disastrous seasons will result in a lower scoring event.

My projections indicate this game sees less than seven goals scored a whopping 61.4% of the time, making the -110 odds (implied probability of 52.4%) on UNDER 6.5 a substantial overlay.
