Wednesday’s slate of games in the National Hockey League is not a particularly compelling one, with most of the contests featuring lackluster matchups.

The most interesting storyline entering tonight’s games is the possibility of the Vegas Golden Knights officially being knocked out of Stanley Cup Playoff consideration.

Below you will find an overlay from their game against the Chicago Blackhawks that is available at PointsBet.

For those unfamiliar with the term “overlay,” it simply refers to odds that are higher than an outcome’s true probability.

For example, if an outcome has a 50% chance of happening, the correlating odds would be +100.

If the odds offered on that specific event are +150, or an implied probability of 40%, then the price would represent an overlay.

VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS at CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

It has been a season from hell of sorts for the Vegas Golden Knights, who are on the cusp of missing the postseason with one of the most talented rosters in all of hockey.

Injuries and inconsistent play have plagued the Golden Knights all season, and last night’s shootout loss to the Dallas Stars in Dallas may have been the final nail in the coffin for Vegas’ Stanley Cup Playoff hopes.

Following a deflating loss like that combined with playing their second road game in consecutive days makes one wonder how they will rebound tonight in Chicago.

The Blackhawks may have only won three of their last fifteen games and five of their last twenty, but Chicago would certainly relish the opportunity to play spoiler tonight at United Center.

Chicago has played Vegas tough in both games the two teams have played this season, earning a 2-1 victory in Las Vegas back in January while losing a 5-4 thriller in overtime in Chicago last month.

Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has warmed up recently, earning at least one point in seven of his last nine games.

Tonight marks Chicago’s final home game of the season, and it could be a memorable one, as this offseason looks like it could be one that sees profound change for the Blackhawks’ roster – specifically relating to Toews and Patrick Kane.

I am expecting the home team to come out firing and put up a fight against a reeling Golden Knights squad, even if Vegas is the far more likely winner on paper.
