To say the NHL’s regular season has rounded the far turn and is deep in the homestretch would be an understatement, as most teams have less than six regular season games remaining in 2021. With fewer and fewer games left on the calendar, each matchup becomes that much more important for teams either jockeying for playoff position or perhaps hoping to sneak into the playoffs in the shadow of the wire. Friday’s 2-0 evening on the betting front wrapped up a positive week; here is to hoping the positive momentum continues into Monday’s slate of games. Below are two wagers to consider from the National Hockey League on Monday night.
CAROLINA HURRICANES at DALLAS STARS (Hurricanes -1.5, -131 ML, o/u 5.5)
While the Carolina Hurricanes are in a tussle for the top spot in the NHL’s Central Division, the real intrigue in this matchup relates to the run the Dallas Stars have been on recently. Winners of five of their last six and seven of their last ten, the Stars’ recent run of success has propelled them back into the playoff race, currently sitting just two points behind the Nashville Predators for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Central with two games in hand. Yes, Dallas has had the benefit of playing Columbus and Detroit over the past couple of weeks, but there is still something to be said about a team who is finding their best form down the stretch. Jake Oettinger is expected to be in goal for the Stars on Monday evening, and despite going 1-1 in his two games against the Hurricanes earlier this month, he played exceptionally well in both outings, stopping 78 of 81 shots combined. Carolina is clearly the better of the two teams but getting plus-odds on the home team entering a matchup on a heater is too enticing to pass up.
Prediction: Stars 3 – Hurricanes 2

EDMONTON OILERS at WINNIPEG JETS (Oilers -1.5, -110 ML, o/u 6)
In a game that looks like it is going to represent a first-round playoff preview, the Oilers head to Winnipeg to take on the Jets in a fantastic matchup. Edmonton enters Monday night’s game coming off a brief break, having not played a game in four days. Despite dropping their most recent decision against Montreal, the Oilers have won four of their last six games and deserved to be considered the favorites in tonight’s game. According to Edge Finder, Edmonton is 7-1 (+5.37 units) this season on the road following an outright loss. Combine this stat with the fact that the Jets are coming into this evening’s tilt on a three-game skid, and the -110 (implied probability of 52.4%) moneyline odds for the Oilers available on PointsBet feels like the way to go.
Prediction: Oilers 3 – Jets 2
