Carles Gil among three New England athletes nominated for 2022 ESPYs

Three athletes representing New England teams have been nominated for the 2022 ESPY Awards: Carles Gil of the New England Revolution, Jonquel Jones of the Connecticut Sun and Charlotte North of Boston College Lacrosse.

Gil is nominated for Best MLS Player. The 2021 Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player, helped lead the Revolution to their first Supporters' Shield title and the best regular season in MLS history with 73 points and 2.15 points per game. He led MLS with 18 assists, eight of which led to game-winning goals. The Spanish midfielder also scored four goals in the 2021 season and so far in the 2022 campaign, he has scored four goals and has eight assists.

Jones is nominated for Best WNBA Player. The Connecticut Sun forward was named player of the week four times, player of the month three times and made the WNBA All-Defensive First Team in 2021. She was recently named 2022 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game Starter and is leading the Suns in points per game (14.6) and rebounds per game (9.1).

North is nominated for Best College Athlete, Women's Sports. She broke the Division I record for most career goals in NCAA lacrosse (342) after scoring four times in Boston College's 13-8 win over the University of Denver in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Dallas, Texas native finished her career with a total of 358 goals. In 2021, North set the NCAA Tournament record with 31 goals in a single tournament, helping BC win their first title.

Former New England Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, is also nominated for a 2022 ESPY Award. After beating Drew Brees' record for career passing yards, the 44-year-old is nominated for the Best Record-Breaking Performance.

The 2022 ESPY Awards will be hosted on ABC on Wednesday, July 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
