Babcock signs $50 million deal to coach Maple Leafs

The Bruins stood pat with their coach Claude Julien this offseason this offseason. The Maple Leafs did not.

Toronto has lured former Red Wings coach Mike Babcock, who signed a $50 million contract with the Leafs, the team announced Wednesday. According to ESPN.com, the deal makes him the highest-paid coach in the NHL. Red Wings AHL coach Jeff Blashill is expected to succeed Babcock, who spent 10 years with the team.

The Red Wings, San Jose Sharks and Buffalo Sabres will all interested in Babcock's services.

Babcock is 527-285 in his career, won the Stanley Cup in 2008, and has only missed the playoffs once in his twelve years of coaching.
