Bergeron a favorite for Selke Trophy in tonight's NHL Awards Show

The Bruins will have a couple of players vying for hardware at tonight’s NHL Awards Show in Las Vegas, and the odds are very good for at least one of them. According to the odds makers out in Vegas, Patrice Bergeron and Anze Kopitar are just about neck-and-neck in the running for the Selke Trophy given to the NHL’s best defensive forward.

It's the fifth straight season Bergeron is a Selke finalist in an award that’s become an annual NHL rite at this point. He’s captured the hardware in three of the last four years, and could become the second four-time winner in NHL history. Hockey Hall of Fame member Bob Gainey of the Montreal Canadiens won the Selke four straight seasons from 1977-78 to 1980-81.

It’s the second Lady Byng finalist for Loui Eriksson after finishing third in 2011, but it feels like that is the aware that Kopitar will take home from Vegas as the new captain of the Los Angeles Kings.
