Friday, July 15: Habs fire stat man who wanted to keep Subban

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, while preparing for the very dead section of the hockey offseason that will quickly be upon us.

*The Montreal Canadiens decided to can their stats man after he made an impassioned plea to keep P.K. Subban.

*The Las Vegas ownership says they’re having some trademark difficulties with their NHL team name, which was expected to be the Black Knights or simply the Knights.

*The Penguins first GM ever, Jack Riley, passed away on Thursday after a storied life in the hockey world.

*There is rumbling among the Philadelphia Flyers organization that last year’s first rounder, Travis Konecny, could end up making the NHL roster. Konecny is one of the players the Bruins bypassed with their three first round picks a year ago.

*This new arena for the Detroit Red Wings sounds pretty sweet, even if it will be sad to see the historic Joe Louis Arena go away.

*PHT writer James O’Brien has the KHL looking to expand to England in the near future after officially getting a franchise going in China over the last couple of months.

*For something completely different: Barstool says that Britney Spears is “unequivocally, unmistakably and indisputably back.” Okay, then.
