Morning Skate: Pens take a strange Game 1 over Preds

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, while hoping that the rest of the Stanley Cup Final is as off the wall as Game 1 most definitely was.

*Frank Seravalli sums it all up as the Pittsburgh Penguins take a strange Game 1 over the Nashville Predators.

*The New Jersey Devils don’t waste any time at the NHL Draft combine in Buffalo and interview potential No. 1 overall pick Nolan Patrick.

*On Coach's Corner Monday night, Don Cherry and Ron MacLean talk about the PK Subban goal that was overturned.

*New Jersey Devils GM Ray Shero hasn’t ruled out the Devils keeping Ilya Kovalchuk if he opts to return to the NHL.

*Speaking of the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, here’s a piece from our friends at CSN Philly about which of the top two prospects would be the best fit for that organization.

*A Predators fan was charged with three misdemeanors after throwing a catfish on the ice in Pittsburgh after the Subban goal that was called back. It feels a little vindictive to me to charge the guy with crimes after he was tossed early from a Stanley Cup Final game, but maybe that’s just me. On the other hand, it’s also a little disconcerting hearing how the fan was able to smuggle the catfish into the arena in the first place. Maybe it’s time to stop throwing dead animals on the ice altogether during hockey games unless you’re a Red Wings fan. That’s kind of a Detroit thing to me.

*FOH (Friend of Haggs) Bruce Arthur is dizzied by the positive spin that the NHL is putting on a number of topics these days.

*For something completely different: Apparently Flash Gordon and the Hulk had to be separated at a comic convention when they were about to brawl. Talk about a Clash of the Titans.
