Very bad top 10 goalie rankings leaves off both Tuukka Rask and Cory Schneider

Say what you want about Tuukka Rask, but -- wait, actually oh my god, don’t say what you want about Tuukka Rask because you probably want to say something stupid about Tuukka Rask. Oh my god, don’t say it.

Sorry. “Say what you want about Tuukka Rask,” but being the active leader in save percentage should probably qualify one as a top-10 goaltender in the NHL.

It didn’t for the NHL Network, as the wonderful television station but horrible list-maker has released its list of the 10 netminders in the league. Rask, who again, has the best career save percentage among active goaltenders, was left off the list.

Did I say best career save percentage among active goaltenders? I meant best career save percentage of all time.

The NHL Network’s top 10 is as follows:

1. Carey Price
2. Braden Holtby
3. Sergei Bobrovsky
4. Matt Murray
5. Devan Dubnyk
6. Jonathan Quick
7. Cam Talbot
8. Henrik Lundqvist
9. Martin Jones
10. Pekka Rinne

This list screams both “recency bias” and “biased towards being stupid bias.” Sergei Bobrovsky is quite high coming off a career year. A little too much love for Cam Talbot, too. Jonathan Quick shouldn’t be on the list and they’ve got him sixth lmao. Henrik Lundqvist eighth? And where the heck is Cory Schneider? Corey Crawford?

Even if you’re going off recent play and ignoring the full body of work, Rask (and others) easily outperformed Martin Jones last season. In fewer games, Pekka Rinne had a save percentage .003 higher than Rask but had five fewer shutouts, and Rask has been the far superior player over the course of their careers.

In a separate post on the honorable mentions for the list, Rask is revealed to be No. 14. You could be the biggest Tuukka Rask hater in the world Mike Felger and you still wouldn’t be able to take this list seriously.

Anyway, that’s kind of what you get with these things. Remember their ranking of the top 40 goalies ever?
