Wednesday, March 15: ‘East Coast bias' a boost for Auston Matthews?

Share

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, after spreading the icy melt all over the sidewalks and walkways. Watch your step out there, people!

*Is the “East Coast bias” going to help or hurt Auston Matthews in the Calder Trophy debate? I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s going to massively help.

*FOH (Friend of Haggs) Elliotte Friedman talks about what’s delaying the decision between the NHL and the Olympics, and gives a brief mention of Brad Marchand forcing his way into the Hart Trophy conversation.

*TSN stat man Scott Cullen has a rundown on a number of items including Carolina Hurricanes skater Jaccob Slavin stepping up.

*As Johnny Hockey heats up, so do a Calgary Flames team that’s won 10 games in a row and hosts the Bruins on Wednesday night.

*Greg Wyshynski has an account of Bobby Ryan deleting his Twitter account after some likes and tweets that many would have a problem with. The headline also accuses TSN writer Ian Mendes of glossing over his past Twitter history, which Mendes addresses below. To indicate that somebody “glossed” over something is to say they willfully ignored or obscured it, and I just don’t see Mendes doing either of those things. So, perhaps the word choice should have been a little better, but the bottom line is that Bobby Ryan probably should keep his opinions to himself, or even better do some serious re-evaluating, given some of the past actions on his social media account.

*Don’t look now, but the Tampa Bay Lightning are finally making that move for the playoffs that we all expected out of them at some point.

*For something completely different: a cool follow-up with the adorable South Korean family that starred in a viral news hit for the BBC.
