Celtics' Jaylen Brown part of NBA group to appear in Europe next week

BOSTON – Jaylen Brown will be among the NBA contingent participating in a series of league-related appearances in Europe beginning next week.

Brown will be part of the league’s “NBA Zone” present by BBVA bank.

The “NBA Zone” features free, interactive fan events for youths through digital and social media engagement, on-court competitions, music, merchandise giveaways and more.

There will also be community-based outreach activities such as the scheduled refurbishment of an outdoor basketball court in Spain.

These type of goodwill missions are par for the course for the up-and-coming stars of the NBA.

Earlier this year, Portland’s C.J. McCollum and Dallas’ Harrison Barnes were part of a similar overseas gathering.

And while Brown understands how fans see him as part of what has the potential to be a great future in Boston, he’s more consumed by doing all he can to make an impact sooner rather than later, which includes connecting with fans overseas whenever the opportunity presents itself.

“I’m excited about the now,” he said. “I’m excited about this summer. I try not to look too far ahead. Everybody talks about the future and how much potential we have; I’m worried about the now. I want to be part of the now. That’s all I’m focused on.”

Brown just completed his rookie season with the Celtics, averaging 6.6 points and 2.8 rebounds while appearing in 78 games with 20 starts.
