The Celtics will hold their first three days of training camp practices at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I., Sept. 26-28, the team announced on Friday. It'll be the first time they've held camp there since 2013, Brad Stevens' first year as coach.
The Celtics will return to their training center at HealthPoint in Waltham, Mass., for practice on Sept. 29 and open the preseason Oct. 2 at TD Garden against the Charlotte Hornets.
The team held camps in Newport under coach Doc Rivers from 2008-10 and again in Stevens' first season four years ago.
With only four players returning to the roster from last season, the Celtics are perhaps looking for a short trip at the start of camp to help develop bonding between new players, including All-Stars Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, and returnees to the roster.
