The news that DeMarre Carroll's knee injury is a bone bruise means that he is back atop team's free agent shortlists.

And he's on the Celtics' list.

Sporting News' Sean Deveney reports that the Celtics are going to pursue the upcoming free agent. The 28-year-old's defensive prowess and versatility could make him a good fit under Brad Stevens.

Carroll has been hot in the 2015 postseason, and has averaged 16.2 ppg and 6.4 rpg in 35.2 minutes per game. He's shooting 51.3 percent from the field. During the 2014-15 regular season, he shot 48.7 percent, with 12.6 ppg and 5.3 rpg in 31.3 minutes per game.

Deveney explained that the Hawks will be interested in keeping Carroll, but that the C's, Lakers and Pistons will be vying for his services, and could drive his salary too high.
